Sonoratown for the win After weeks of online voting over at L.A. Taco, this year's Taco Madness tournament has produced a single winner: Sonoratown. Or, more specifically given the parameters of this year's competition, Sonoratown's awesome carne asada taco, served on a freshly prepared flour tortilla.
When it comes to choosing which tacos to eat downtown, the decision can be difficult. We'll make it easy for you - go to Sonoratown. This tiny, order-at-the-counter taco spot is a bit removed from the main downtown hustle, but it's worth the extra few blocks walk.
Named after an old LA neighborhood that's since been replaced by Chinatown, this hole-in-the-wall serves Sonoran tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Every day, the kitchen makes fresh flour tortillas that are the base of each menu item, particularly the chimichanga. The Sonoratown standout is soft-fried and stuffed with shredded chicken, Monterey jack and cheddar cheeses, fire-roasted tomatoes, and Anaheim peppers.
